Golf is a game of rules and manners. It?s quite important to know the basics before you play for the first time. In other words, one must know the etiquette of the game. In other words, who plays when, what rules apply when, and how to leave the course in at least the condition you found it, if not leaving it improved.
Never "push" the group that is ahead of you in the links. This is consider behavior that is boorish and not in the spirit of the game. You must wait your turn, no matter how badly you want to smack the ball.
Turns are taken in first come, first served order. And, if you get ahead of the person in front of you, they should wave you through, allowing you to play at your own pace.
If your team is holding up the players behind you, let them play through. You would simply wave them through, or if they are close enough, ask them if they'd like to play through. You will never make an enemy in doing this! When someone is making a shot, you should be behind them and you shouldn't make a sound! It is so distracting to be ready to tee off and just as you pull back, someone decides to jingle in coins in their pocket or noisily unwrap a piece of candy.
Anytime anyone you are playing with makes a shot, you should be behind them and be quiet. One of the most grievous breeches of etiquette is to disturb another player's shot. No jingling coins or unwrapping candy. Respect for the other player is the watchword.
As soon as you have completed a hole, replace the flag and leave the green so that the next players can play. Count your score and write it on the scorecard when you're back at your cart.
There are many rules to golf, and this has been an introductory glance at the rules, at best. However, these simple rules will allow you to play, enjoy, and follow the basic rules of game etiquette.
